The Prodigal Truck Returns

The Prodigal Truck Returns After 36 Years

The end of 2016 is upon us. It is at times like these when we tend to look back on all our efforts, failures and successes. This year, not only marks the 10th anniversary of LCS, but also marks 36 years in the logistics industry for our original founder and CEO, Awie Britz.

What better way to pay tribute to such an incredible milestone, than to reunite Awie with the very first truck that started it all! His first truck, a 1980 model Mercedes 1924, had been tracked down and lovingly restored to its original condition. From the Ivory White factory paint, down to the outside-mounted air horn, boasting its original rebuilt straight 6 ADE diesel motor with 170 kW of power - laughable by today’s standards, but it got the job done. Seeing the truck that started LCS on its path to success pull into the depot, filled Awie with delight and rekindled all those memories from years gone by. This was a true indication of how far we have come as a business!

The classic truck is currently on display at our Heidelberg depot, reminding the LCS team every day of our humble beginnings and the true power of hard work, perseverance and our unwavering faith in God, who has always carried us through all the prosperous and challenging times.

Golf Day Success

Golf Day Success

On Wednesday, 9 November, LCS hosted its inaugural Golf Day at Heidelberg Golf Club. 72 men and women came together for an eventful round of golf and spit braai afterwards. Despite the beautiful rain that cut our day short, it turned out to be a wonderful success. Most importantly, we raised over R90,000.00 to benefit Lesedi Community Centre.

This would not have been possible without the help from our sponsors. We would like to extend a big thank you to Heidelberg Golf Course, Baird Financial Services, Multi Tyre, Atlas, Caltex, Auto Truck Tyres, Ruah Transport, JR Lubricants, Intellectual HR Solutions, Active Brands, AGS Kairos Kerk, Mega Magic, Open Water, Carlos Neto and Francois Koch.

Then we would also like to thank all the individual players for their participation and support!

LCS will be hosting another Golf Day next year. We hope to see you there!

Bay Shipping

Bay Shipping Powered by the LCS Group

On 1 June 2016 LCS Group acquired Bay Shipping CC, a registered shipping agency located in Richards Bay. As an established and well respected shipping agency in the port, Bay Shipping has provided quality, reliable and cost effective services to its customer base for the last 15 years. The service offering include Clearing and Forwarding, Ship Broking and Port Agency services.

This acquisition is a logical building block in the LCS Group’s service offering as a diversified Supply Chain company. The Bay Shipping portfolio expands LCS’s existing range of Pit-to-Port services, which it has been providing to its customer base in the bulk minerals industry for the past 10 years. LCS is now able to directly satisfy any material handling requirement, provide road / rail transport, warehousing, containerisation, clearing and forwarding, as well as marine freight services.

LCS is pleased that it was able to retain the expertise of the entire Bay Shipping team, under the leadership of its MD, Tokkie Pieterse.

Bay Shipping will continue to maintain its primary operations inside the Port of Richards Bay, but has already expanded its footprint by adding an additional branch in Durban, while it will closely collaborate with the LCS headquarters in Heidelberg, Gauteng. The inclusion of Bay Shipping into the LCS Group provides synergistic and internal efficiency improvement opportunities that would be beneficial to its mutual customer base.

LCS Mountain Challenge

Great Results for LCS Mountain Challenge

LCS hosted its first annual Mountain Challenge on 3 September 2016, in conjunction with Hoër Volkskool Heidelberg and the Eskort Varkfees.

We promised a very exciting day and we did not disappoint. Not only was the weather perfect and the routes exciting, but our expectations were exceeded when 500 cyclists and runners lined up for the start of the race! The general feedback was extremely positive and we are thankful for an event that ran smoothly and provided immense enjoyment to all involved.

A big thank you to the SA Army Gymnasium in Heidelberg for allowing us to start and finish on their grounds! We would also like to thank all the competitors and sponsors who helped make the day a great success. In conjunction with the following selected LCS suppliers and service providers, we were able to make a sizeable donation to Hoër Volkskool:

Ruah Trans, Afrit, Cargo Commercial, Skywire Technologies, Libra Insurance Brokers and Mega Magic.

We would further like to thank Wikus Boshoff, Hoër Volkskool management, all LCS employees and friends, students and parents for their tireless work and assistance behind the scenes. A big thank you to Valostar Steel Construction, who erected one of the most memorable bridges ever, for a river crossing experience that will achieve fabled status! Thank you to Aloe Realtors for the route markers, thereby ensuring that nobody rode those unnecessary and annoying extra kilometres! To the host of other sponsors that enabled us to supply exciting goody bags and excellent prizes, our deepest gratitude:

Chevron SA, Würth SA, Breno Parts, Michelin Tyres, Multi Tyre, Patchtech, iCab RMS, MAN Trucks, Heidelberg Cycling, Heidelberg Mall, Powerhouse Supplements & Nutrition, Big Blade Cycles, Dischem, Biogen, Heidelberg Pharmacy, Salone Carine, Heidelberg Spur, Paint & Decor, Hot Pot Paints, Don Amare Butchery, Dankbaar Vleismark, Honfleur Coffee Shop, Elandsfontein Meat Market, House of Beauty, Delicatessen Koslich, Gables 24hr Convenience, Heidelberg Gas and Coal, Luxury Aveling Speech-Language therapist, Eskort, Oasis Heidelberg, Life Suikerbosrand Hospital and Ancient Days.

Sani2C

Team LCS and Sani2C

A BIG congratulations goes out to Team LCS, Riaan Barnard and Lourens Greyling, for successfully completing the Sani2C - the most popular 3-day mountain bike stage race in the world.

The race started just outside Underberg and took our team all the way to Scottburgh where the finish line awaited on the beachfront. A total of 4500 cyclists competed in the race this year. Due to its popularity, Sani2C has evolved to offer three editions of the same event - the Trail, the Adventure and the Race. Team LCS completed the Trail, which started on 10 May and finished 265km later, on 12 May.

This was Riaan’s second Sani2C and Lourens’s fourth. Well done!
